Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights. ~Pauline R. Kezer
About Me
When I first started the SLIM Graduate Program I knew that becoming a librarian was the right choice for me. However, I’m not sure I could have explained why or in which direction I wanted to head. Now, after reaching the end of the program, and having found a great position, I can put into words what I couldn’t quite grasp as I sat in my introductory class on Library Science. Though I wouldn’t have expected it when I began, I have found true enjoyment in helping our young adult patrons. These patrons will be lifelong users of the library, and I enjoy nourishing that through books, and technology. I have a particular interest in gaming as a source of literacy, socialization, information gathering, problem solving, emotional growth, and artistic appreciation. I am particularly interested in how we can use games to draw and keep young patrons as well as how we can use them to encourage interest in other mediums such as reading, science, math and expressions in writing and other arts.
My Pledge
Libraries are a place for growth. As a library professional I will do my best to provide access to information and technology to the diverse set of people that represent my community. I will be particularly aware of providing access to information that might otherwise be unavailable, as well as providing services and resources to populations that might otherwise be underrepresented. I will strive to meet this challenge in offering information on topics that I hold dear, as well as topics I find unsavory. I will use my professional training to guide me in this. I, as a librarian, will provide a gateway to the flow of information in which I will always strive to keep open.
